On stage with Enver Izmaylov: duets, orchestras and The Klezmatics
About the artist: Enver Izmaylov
The programme of Izmaylov's Kyiv concert, which the Kyiv Post announced for 1 December 2011, included compositions by The Beatles, Indian and Eastern melodies and throat singing. The venue was the Panorama restaurant in Kyiv, with free admission. The evening was built around one electric guitar, and the repertoire ran from Britain to India.
Izmaylov has played with many partners even though he works mostly as a soloist. According to the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine, he performed duets with the British saxophonist and flutist Geoff Warren, the Russian saxophonist Igor Butman and the Bulgarian clarinetist Ivo Papazov. The Minaret liner notes add the drummer Burhan Ocal and the French keyboard player Xavier Garcia. From 2000 to 2002 he took part in the Black Sea Orchestra project, whose players came from countries around the Black Sea. Since 2002 he has performed with his daughter, the singer L. Izmailova.

According to the encyclopedia, he has toured Moldova, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Germany, Finland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Turkey, the USA and Austria, and his discography exceeds thirty compact discs in the same encyclopedia. In the USA, the Netherlands, Germany and Finland he also gave masterclasses. The page of The Klezmatics says he has shared a stage or a studio with Bobby McFerrin and Tommy Emmanuel, as well as with Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto of King Crimson.
The most recent confirmed collaboration is with The Klezmatics, the Grammy-winning band from contemporary klezmer. The band announced that Izmaylov would contribute to its new album as both composer and performer. On 15 June 2025 they played a pre-premiere concert at The Falcon in Marlboro, New York, with Izmaylov as special guest. On 17 June DROM in New York hosted "Enver Izmaylov & Crimean Tatar Band" with Frank London and Matt Darriau of The Klezmatics, and the new material sounded live for the first time. According to the band, the album recording took place at those two concerts.
The American trip carried the name Strings Across Continents Tour. Izmaylov's official website names other American dates too: a Balkan Klezmer Music Night at the SPACE club in Evanston and the JetLAG festival. Izmaylov had already played JetLAG in 2024 and, according to The Klezmatics, drew strong attention there, and in 2025 he returned as a headliner. The Falcon's listing presents him as a guitarist who blends jazz with Crimean Tatar, Balkan and Turkish traditions.
